About the Central WI Community Action Council Food Pantry

Raffle tickets for the 3rd Annual Dells Holiday Train Event can be purchased at the CWCAC office located at 1000 Highway 13, Wisconsin Dells, (608) 254-8353 or at the Amtrak Train Depot located at 100 La Crosse St. in downton Wisconsin Dells.

Central WI Community Action Council operates and/or subcontracts with 15 food pantries in Adams, Columbia, Dodge, Juneau, Marquette, Sauk, Waushara, and Wood Counties to provide emergency food assistance to households in need. CWCAC is a private not-for profit organization that operates a variety of State and Federal Programs to assist low-income families.

Our Lake Delton/Wisconsin Dells food pantry is located at our main office at 1000 Hwy. 13 in Wisconsin Dells, WI, and serves the residents of the school districts of Lake Delton and Wisconsin Dells only. Our pantry is open Tuesday mornings from 9 a.m. until Noon and on Thursday afternoons from 1 p.m. until 4 p.m. Since we distribute government commodities, our food pantry must abide by Federal regulations. Eligibility is based on each household’s residency and monthly gross income. Each household receives a well-balanced food package that weighs approximately 50 pounds which is meant to supplement the family’s food supply for 2-3 days. As costs rise for housing, energy, prescription drugs, and health care, many families are unable to earn enough to meet all of their basic needs. Food pantries and federal nutrition programs help close the gap.

On average, our pantry serves 150 households a month and at a minimum of 50 pounds distributed per family, gives out over 7,500 pounds of food monthly (90,000 pounds annually). The Federal commodities only account for 21% of the amount distributed and for the other 79%, or 71,000 pounds of food, our agency relies on local area donations from local service groups, churches, businesses, private citizens, area United Way Funds and United Funds, Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA); and The Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP). With every dollar donated, we are able to purchase over five pounds of food through the Second Harvest Food Bank (currently 18 cents a pound).

The Canadian Pacific Holiday Train stop of 2006 was our food pantry’s second largest fund raiser and with your help, the 2007 CPR holiday train event will exceed the $8000.00 raised last year.
